Is it Bob or is it Harper?
06.30.08 - 11:02 pm (CT)

My first dog: as yet not officially named, but he is my rather nice Redbone Coonhound.

Last weekend I went to my family reunion — the (Bob and Eve) Harper Family Reunion — down in southern Illinois at my brother's house and brought a little bit of the South home with me… a Redbone Coonhound puppy! He just showed up at my brother's place out in the middle of nowhere, accompanied by an older dog who seemed to have been looking for a home to drop the little fella off at. No sooner did we spot the two of them than the older dog took off leaving the puppy to happily come join our celebration.

I tried to get the puppy to go with the older dog, but to no avail. Then when the puppy was still with us the next morning I went to the surrounding homes to look for the puppy's owner, but no one within quite a distance, including the local sheriff, knew who he belonged to, which left him belonging to me. I've never had my very own dog before, so now I have "my" first dog that goes by Bob or Harper, depending on what I decide at the moment I want to call him. I know I'll have to decide pretty quick on a name for this 20 pounds of laid-back, lovable, 3 - 4 month old puppy… gee, he'll probably make the decision for me by answering to one or the other.

Some days are worth the wait
06.10.08 - 9:34 am (CT)
Today is starting off pretty much okay… we've had a few rough days, but today, the sun is shining, the sky is clear, the air is breezy, and the temperature is cool. It's so nice out that I really should be sitting on the deck with a cup of tea, a book, and just enjoying the start of day…

Pool is open… take a peek at Google Earth
06.02.08 - 9:34 am (CT)
It took me a little longer, but with Jon's help the pool was finally ready for use just yesterday, however, I had to work so it wasn't me using it, it was my guys and their girls being the first ones to cool off by taking the first of the season's plunge. According to Wunderground (see Pool Watch 2008 for present weather conditions), today is supposed to be partly cloudy and a balmy 85º F, which makes it a perfect day for it to be my turn.

I do have some running around I have to do this morning — like paying my real estate taxes and ordering some parts for the pool's filter (the old ones work, but not very efficiently) — but this afternoon I'm on summer hours. So, don't bother coming over or calling me, because I'll be busy doing absolutely nothing but lounging, cooling off, and listening to some great music.

BTW, I just downloaded Google Earth 4.2 and took a look at my pool and it looked great the day, which looks to be maybe in the last few days, the satellite traversed by my little chunk of America.

Hiding in the open… not seeing what's right in front of your face
06.01.08 - 7:08 am (CT)
Gee, I giveaway one little secret about hiding in the open and the first thing that happens is just what I want to avoid by hiding there, which is questions, or to be more precise, one question… what am I hiding from? Well, the answer to that is, scrutiny, by whomever for whatever. People don't expect to find whatever they are looking for right in front of their faces, so they don't usually look there until they can't find it anywhere else and even then, it's usually just a matter of happenstance.
